Bella and Canvas answer the call to duty

Recently, Bella was approached to donate some shirts to some very worthy recipients. We were honored to participate and sent over 800 shirts to TakePride, who is packaging and sending them to troops in the 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry regiment/10th Mountain Army Division. The "4-31" have been deployed to multiple locations and are currently serving in Iraq.

TakePride is an organization that was launched in NYC approximately one year ago by young artists, writers, designers and recent war veterans to give their generation a stylish and apolitical way to show they cared about Americans at war. Their modern-day symbol of support is a line of designer t-shirts that tell the stories of individual Americans at war. TakePride donates a minimum of 20% of profits to charity.

This most recent project was designed to give a group of soldiers an escape, even if for just one night. TakePride has joined forces with Bella/Canvas, Children for Children, HBO, Barilla Pasta, Dean & Deluca, Fla Vor Ice, Stella D'Oro, Rao's Pasta Sauce, UHaul and the UWVC to send these troops "Italian Night" themed packages. Along with the Bella/Canvas tees, the soldiers will receive Sopranos DVDs, pasta, breadsticks and Italian ice. The packages were assembled in Rockefeller Square on Monday, Sept 10 by volunteers from Children for Children and a few celebrities, as well!

Big thanks go to TakePride for all that they do and for inviting us to join them!

Green Minute of the Month

Shrek isn't the only thing that's green at DreamWorks... they're operating as a greener company, too. DreamWorks Animation, based in Glendale, CA has joined the hundreds, and possibly thousands of companies in the US that are taking steps to operate as a more environmentally friendly company.

One of the initiatives that they have taken on is to replace all plastic drink cups, wax-coated coffee cups, and plastic and styrofoam food containers with eco-friendly recyclable and biodegradable food and beverage containers. This change "will eliminate over 1 million non-recyclable items from entering local landfills each year."

Other eco-friendly happenings at DreamWorks include company-wide recycling programs, carpooling and public transportation initiatives, the introduction of hybrid company vehicles and the conversion to earth friendly cleaning products. Employees who do drive to work have the opportunity to have their cars washed by an on-site service that "uses a special method to reclaim, filter and reuse water while also saving you the time and gas."

Fashion Trends

The arrival of fall also marks the arrival of back to school and football games. Show your spirit in style by sporting some of Bella's fashionable two-tone basics in your school colors & stay warm at the game in our two tone fleece.
